ABOUT
Hello. I'm Jane.
I'm one of the lucky ones, combining my childhood passion for storytelling with my profession, broadcast journalism. Ending up in the world of baseball was unexpected considering I wasn't a sports fan growing up. But when I helped launch the new San Diego Padres TV station back in 1997, that led to my having a show One on One with Jane Mitchell for 15 years, writing a book, and telling stories of Hall of Famers, Fan Favorites and Rising Stars. What a fantastic ride. Now this website experience is part of my One on One Productions. I'm certainly proud of the 27 Emmys and other awards garnered along the way; many are shared with talented colleagues. But, the prize I am most proud of came in 2013, when I had my daughter Lily!
My Cooperstown connection...
July 2018 will by my fourth time to Cooperstown. Having told Trevor's story over the course of 20 years starting in 1998 with a revealing interview, I promised myself I would be there to witness this crowning moment of his magnificent journey. I was part of the Padres and Channel 4 San Diego crew for Dave Winfield (2001), Jerry Coleman (2005) and Tony Gwynn (2007). We had special access, giving viewers an up-close and personal look at each of the honorees' experiences, share their life stories, and hear how they're known around the game from fans and other Hall of Famers. While not at their ceremonies, One on One has featured legends Ted Williams, Ozzie Smith, Rollie Fingers and Dick Enberg.
What this site is all about...
While there are six inductees in 2018, I know Trevor Hoffman and Alan Trammell. What a bonus the two former teammates get to go in together; one as a Padre, the other as a Detroit Tiger. As we Countdown, you’ll see their stories from the archives and I’ll offer some insight, bring you along with what I encounter, and invite you to share your stories too. Thanks for being here. What another fun ride this should be!
